MicroHelis New Zealand - Reviews

small logo

Welcome to the review page.

(Last updated on December 4, 2004)

As I have recently been accepted as a reviewer/author for RCGroups.com I have decided to publish all my reviews through their excellent webzine.

For Microhelis New Zealand readers, this page serves as a guide to the reviews I have written, and as a 'launch pad' to enter the reviews at the RCGroups site.  Reviews are listed on this page in 'newest to the top' format.  For your convenience, clicking on the Title, Picture, or Link will open the review on RCGroups in a new window.

Prolux 1-3 Cell LiPo Charger Review - published September 7th 2004.

Review 5 was also freelance, and partnered with review 4.  This time I was looking at the Prolux 1-3 Cell LiPo Charger.  An extremely low-cost 1-3 Cell LiPo charger with a built in invertor.

Apex V12 Switching Power Supply - published September 7th 2004.

Review number 4 for The EZone was another freelance job.  This time I switched to flight kit rather than airframes, and took a look at the Apex V12 Switching Power Supply.  This is a great power supply, specifically designed for powering DC battery chargers.

Ikarus Bell UH-1 Huey Body Kit for the Piccolo Review - published July 27th 2004.

My third article was another freelance review.  Continuing with the FUN Piccolo theme, this time I moved the FUN electronics and mechanincs into an Ikarus Bell UH-1 Huey body kit.

The Ikarus Bell UH-1 Huey body kit is an add on for the Piccolo range of machines the converts your 'pod and boom' micro heli into a Huey!  This kit may also fit other micros with some adaptation.

Ikarus FUN Piccolo Review - published July 11th 2004.

My second article was another freelance review.  This time I decide to take a look at the Ikarus FUN Piccolo.

The FUN piccolo is the entry level model of the Ikarus Piccolo range of micro-helis, designed as a low-cost, easy to maintain and repair model for those wanting to try their hand at micro helis.

MS Composit Hornet II Review - published March 8th 2004.

My debut article was a review of the MS Composit Hornet II.

The Hornet II is the latest addition to the MS Composit microheli lineup, and incorporates many design improvements over the earlier models.  You can read the full review on.....

Coming Articles on

You can view a full list of upcoming articles on the RCGroups webzines by going to the RCGroups Upcoming Articles Page .

I currently have two reviews and two articles in progress, and will have another two reviews to do once the aircraft arrive.

In approximate order of appearance, they will be:

A review of the Great Planes Electrifly Cub - a semi-scale RTF model of the Piper Cub.

A review of the Hobbico SuperStar with Ailerons - A 48" Span, EP full house trainer.

A review of the Parkzone Cub - a semi-scale RTF model of the Piper Cub.

A review of the EAM SortA-7.  A fun-scale pusher prop model of the legendary A-7.

An article on progressing from Beginner to PilotHood using E-Powered AIrcraft only.

An article on converting the Ikarus Bell "Huey" into a Vietnam era Huey Gunship (with video footage!)

Watch out for these and other reviews and articles coming soon on RCGroups
